If I had to choose One food to eat for the rest of my life, it would probably be the avocado. I’ve loved them since I was a child, when a half avocado was a RARE treat!
Here are ten facts I bet most people don’t know:
- The avocado is a fruit.
- It is known as an alligator pear, for it’s dark green, pebbled exterior.
- The avocado tree can grow up to 80 feet tall.
- It can take 8-20 years for a seedling to produce fruit, 1-2 years for grafted plants.
- Fruit will mature, depending on the variety, from 6-18 months.
- Avocados are a good source of fiber, vitamins K, C & B6, Potassium, Folate, and Copper
- Eating avocados may help lower cholesterol.
- Avocado added to salads helps the body absorb more carotenoids.
- Avocados may help fight cancer.
- People with latex allergies may be allergic to avocados.
Someone once told me that people who eat avocados are very intelligent. I am inclined to believe that statement is true.
